Best way to wash a car?

Yesterday, I filled up my gas tank at the Shell station on Monterey and Huntington (Monrovia). They also have an inexpensive car wash for as little as $5 with a fillup. My car needed one, so I went for it.

It’s all automated. You enter a code that recognizes the type of carwash you purchased, then in you go. After a few minutes, you get the green light, and drive out while air blasts over you. Unfortunately, the drying isn’t thorough, and the car isn’t squeaky clean.

What I usually do is use a coupon I’d get from Albertsons, then go to the Temple City Car Wash for the cheapest one there (which is around $9). With a $2 tip, $11 total. However, I think I’m going to start washing the car myself.

Since I live in an apartment, I don’t have a water hose and a spot to wash the car myself.

I heard of some people using a product that doesn’t require water, and I’m really interested in that. I’ll take the 30 minutes to do the job. Any suggestions on what a good one would be worth buying? (I live close to Kragen or Pep Boys.) Thanks!

Eat, sleep immediately, and never wake up?

My mom was telling me how last night, she was afraid to go to sleep. Why? Because she just ate. She’s heard of rare cases where people have died if they sleep immediately after eating dinner.
This doesn’t make sense, but have any of you heard this? I don’t even know what to search.

Mafia – an awesome non-tech game

Other than Texas Hold’Em, I love the thinking that takes place when playing “Mafia” with a bunch of people. In our SMCC college group/cluster, we played it last Thursday for our first cluster, then again on Sunday after church, when we were hanging out at Andy and Cara’s. Man, it’s awesome!

Why do I love it? Because lying is totally acceptable, and, unfortunately, expected. Does that make sense? It’s even more fun because you could have a bunch of people and still have a blast. If you’re with a group of people and want to try something new, give Mafia a shot!
The variation we play uses a deck of playing cards to decide who’s who. We include mafia (any King), townspeople (any numbered card), a sheriff (an Ace), a doctor (a Jack), and a blind sniper (a Joker; kills random people at night). Oh yeah, and the Godfather (narrator). The more people we have, the more mafia members we’ll allow.

Farewell to a coworker

It’s tough to say goodbye to a coworker, especially when you really didn’t know them too well. Since I work in IT part-time, if the computers run well, you basically don’t see anyone. We’re so isolated in our offices.

Anyway, this summer, a few people left. Today, someone’s leaving, too. When that happens, they get a photo of the founder within a matte border around it with everyone’s signatures and well wishes. What do I write on there without looking like a dork? I’m sure it doesn’t matter – it’s the thought that counts, right?

I can picture them reading the comments, and thinking, “Wow, I remember Bryan. What a weirdo!”

Then again, I guess I was probably goofy around them.

This post is so dumb, I’ll probably delete it at a later point in time.

Buying a used PS2

Joe is selling me his PS2 with a memory card, two controllers, and a game for $50 USD. I don’t think I’ll be getting a PS3 when it comes out, so this sounds like a good deal. (I really just love playing Madden.)

Should I do it or save up for a Nintendo Wii?

Oh yeah, Joe? I know you’re reading this, so don’t you dare comment here anonymously or under an alias! :)

Update: So yeah, I have the PS2 now. It’s nice to have another way to chill. I’ll use Madden 2005 and the memory card to make my own franchise. Pretty cool, I think. The last video game console I owned was a Super Nintendo. Yeah.

Silas and I were supposed to meet up with other photography classmates for long exposure photos from Cow Canyon Saddle by Mt. Baldy Village1. That didn’t happen. I didn’t ask Bill to pose or smile. I liked his second portrait, but that wasn’t as sharp. Boo me. Reflections of myself and Bill’s dad (upper left) was deliberate. Taken inside his dad’s garage, and hopefully soon to be his recording studio. View on Flickr

  • A gift of film November 10, 2009
Jon Swanson emailed me last Friday and asked if I wanted any color Fuji 35mm film. He didn’t tell me how many rolls he had in his possession. Most importantly, he didn’t want a dime. I asked him how much he had, but he persisted that I give him a number. I requested eight rolls of 200 film1. [...]
