Thanks Joe!

The last two shows Phantom Scream had weren’t possible without Joe Wellman. I didn’t name him, but only because I didn’t want to name a bunch of people and miss someone. (Not a great excuse, but I’m telling you the truth.) He let me know about it – I really am sorry, and I should’ve at least mentioned him.

Joe, thanks for getting us those shows and good looking out!

Five days, twelve bullets

  • I saw “Lady in the Water” on Saturday. I liked it a lot.
  • Sunday was good and laid back. Band practice was uncomfortably hot around 4:00pm. The air conditioner Dan just “installed” isn’t on its own circuit. The breaker blows out.
  • I had to go to work on Monday beause my boss was on vacation. It was pretty slow, but I got to finally see Renzo. We got lunch – that was cool. Haven’t seen him in awhile.
  • After work on Monday, I decided to pass by my cousins’ house in Eagle Rock/Los Angeles. I went in hopes that Jenny might want to hear us with some friends. (She brought two.)
  • Despite being the last band [again], our performance at B.B. King’s was the best so far. Bill’s dad used a swear word to describe how awesome we sounded. (He’s a big critic on our music, that’s why it matters so much to me.)
  • I hate sweating profusely on stage.
  • Since I got home late after our performance, I was extremely messed up at work the following morning. There were some issues to deal with, so I wasn’t a complete zombie. :)
  • I learned something while talking to some co-workers.
  • I saw “Lady in the Water” again. Half asleep at times, but I still loved it.
  • I’m starting to blog more at All Narfed Up. I added some features, so I’m stoked about that.
  • Even though Wednesday was an off day, I didn’t catch up on sleep.
  • Got a phone call for a ticket to see the All-American Rejects Wednesday night. (Thanks Esther!) It was good – all 50 minutes of it.

Show at B.B. King’s Blues Club

We’ve got another show tonight!

B.B. King’s Blues Club
1000 Universal Center Drive (Yahoo! Maps, Google Maps)
Universal City, California

Cost: $10 General Aadmission, $12 Door
Start: 6:00PM
Phantom Scream: 11:30PM

At the events calendar, we’re listed as “Phantom Suicide“. It’s funny how our name seems to get mixed with other names, huh?

Anyway, according to our contact, it’s all ages until 10PM, then you need to be 21+. (Ignore the ticket, which states 18+.) Also, there’s a two drink minimum. If you’re underage, I think the drink ticket is $6 for two beverages.

If you have the time, check out the other bands, too! I know we appreciate it when strangers give our music a chance.

Get large pizzas, not medium

I read this post at AntiRebate.com, and couldn’t help but order a pizza. (I haven’t eaten since 5:30am.) Basically, go with large pizzas instead of medium because they’re mathmatically a better deal. I’d just save the rest for later. Yum!

Quoting for future reference:

Being smart is good! And here’s a great example. I often see coupons like this one: 2 medium pizzas for $12.99 or 2 large pizzas for $16.99. But which is a better deal? Let’s consider the math. A medium pizza is about 12-inches in diameter. A large pizza is about 16-inches in diameter. To find the total area of a circle, the formula is Area = PiR2. Pi is a constant, which is approximately 3.14. R is the radius of the circle, or half of the diameter.

So, for the medium pizza we have: 3.14 x 62 = 113.04 squared inches. For the large pizza, we have 3.14 x 82 = 200.96 squared inches.

Now to figure out how much pizza we are getting for our money, we divide the total area by the cost of the pizza.

  • For the medium pizza: 113.04 / $12.99 = 8.70 squared inches per dollar
  • For the large pizza: 200.96 / $16.99 = 11.82 squared inches per dollar

We multiply the results by 2 since we’re getting two pizzas. So for each dollar you spend on the medium pizzas, you are getting 17.40 squared inches of pizza. For the large pizzas, you are getting 23.64 squared inches.

As you can see, you are getting about 35% more pizza for each dollar if you go for the large pizzas. Thus the large pizzas are definitely a much better deal. And you thought you’d never use your high school math!

I hate going to E.R.

Last night, my mom supposedly got food poisoning. (It’s weird because the people she was with didn’t get it, so we’re not sure what it’s from.) We were at the emergency room from 10:15pm to 8:40am; ten and a half hours! I brought my iPod to listen to podcasts, plus a book – but I wasn’t comfortable enough to do either for a long period of time. I won’t say what annoyed me in that emergency room. At least I had a small television to pass the time. (I saw Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien twice.) My mom got her own room, so that was good, too.

When we got home at 9:30am, I slept until about 3pm. I’ll probably be vegging for the rest of the day since I’m really out of it. Mom’s going to be fine. Potassium was low, so they gave her some of that plus something for the nausea. She seems to be sleeping peacefully.

Silas and I were supposed to meet up with other photography classmates for long exposure photos from Cow Canyon Saddle by Mt. Baldy Village1. That didn’t happen. Once we got to the turnout on Glendora Ridge Rd, we just saw a sign and a road leading into an RV park. There wasn’t a mention of Cow Canyon [...]

I didn’t ask Bill to pose or smile. I liked his second portrait, but that wasn’t as sharp. Boo me. Reflections of myself and Bill’s dad (upper left) was deliberate. Taken inside his dad’s garage, and hopefully soon to be his recording studio. View on Flickr

  • A gift of film November 10, 2009
Jon Swanson emailed me last Friday and asked if I wanted any color Fuji 35mm film. He didn’t tell me how many rolls he had in his possession. Most importantly, he didn’t want a dime. I asked him how much he had, but he persisted that I give him a number. I requested eight rolls of 200 film1. [...]
