Why the world needs Superman

I saw a 10:40pm showing of “Superman Returns” last night. Going into it, I vaguely remember the original Superman movies. I expected the modern-day special effects to make it look fantastic. (See IMDB profiles for Superman, Superman II, Superman II, and Superman IV.)

Wow. I think the casting was perfect, and each played their part really well. Brandon Routh did an awesome job of being Clark Kent/Superman, Kate Bosworth was gorgeous as Lois Lane, and Kevin Spacey played a diabolical Lex Luther. I felt power, emotion, and evil in this film.

The buildup for the action takes some patience, but it’s well worth it to see all that Superman could do. My mouth was open in awe for every action sequence.

I speculate that the people behind the movie allowed the sneak preview so we could tell our friends and help give the movie a huge boost when it officially comes out. I say, good thinking. Go see it. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Work and play

It’s been a little over a week out of coaching and RHLA. How’ve I been?

I’ve been slacking a lot. I haven’t been used to so much free time, so for the first couple days, I wasn’t doing much. I think I got over that, so I figure I’ll fill in the time I was coaching with other things.

Home Cleanliness

At home, my mom and I have accumulated a lot of stuff. It’s only obvious that after we got Public Storage, we should utilize it.

Her goal is to get rid of as much stuff as we can so we can get the carpet changed. My goal is for our apartment to be as minimalistic as possible. I want only the things we need in there. The only problem is that most of the furniture we have is more for storage than for regular use, and that same furniture has been with us since the 80s. (It’d be hard to persuade her to get rid of some of it.)

I will sort through my clothes because I’m sure I don’t wear them all. Mom says she’d like to hand them down to my cousins in the Philippines, but she doesn’t ship stuff to them regularly, so I’ll probably give them to a Goodwill or something.

Guitar

I don’t know too much about guitar. Sure, I can read and play off tabs, and I subconsciously know a little of whatever scale Tom Morello uses. But, I really need to learn so much more. Technique, notes, scales – I should be able to learn lots this summer on my free time.

Question: Can you recommend any instructional DVDs, sites, or articles?

Band

Doc’s been gone for a month, but fortunately he’ll be back tomorrow. Bill’s on a retreat this week, but when he gets back Friday, we should be at full force. We’ve recorded a handful of songs (on separate tracks), so when Doc’s back, he’ll lay down the vocals to complete them. I believe Bill is going to find someone to remaster them. Then, we’ll have our demo to give out! (Er, sell?)

What we’re excited about is that we bought drum mics, a condenser mic, and a mixer so the drums get recorded with better quality.

Fact: We recording all the drum tracks we’ll be using in our demo in either Bill’s living room or James’ living room, in hopes that the audio would sound better. (see pictures)

Question: If you live in proximity to Arcadia, CA, can you get in touch with me about remastering or producing our songs? Maybe a quote per song?

Work

This summer, I’m gong to be working 4 days/week. I aspire to earn enough money to pay off all my credit card debt. (It’s a lot.) It’s kind of slow at work, but I’ve ascertained some projects I can do to keep myself preoccupied. My goal there is to have cleaned up my office drastically, which hasn’t changed a whole lot since we first moved there. There’s so many old computers I’m sure we could get rid of them.

My Music Collection

I have to admit something – the majority of my music isn’t legit. *gasp* However, with La la, more hours at work, and Half.com, I think I’ll try to get as many CDs as I can. I’m so excited that I could possibly get rid of all the unwanted CDs I’ve been storing all these years. I did delete a bunch of songs from my music library on my computer, so that’s a good step, too.

School

I’m heading back to Cal Poly! Well, I will have applied by the deadline in three days, but I took the two classes at PCC that I failed at Citrus – and passed both with a B! (I am so excited I passed Logic, you have no idea!) I’m majoring in Computer Information Systems. I’m hoping I’ll be done in two years, three max. Yeah, I know I’ve been at it for awhile, but…nevermind. No excuses.

That’s all!

I’d write more often if I could only think of topics. I’m sure the ideas would flood in if I didn’t think about it at the Write screen, huh?

New socks

I got some new socks today. I love the feel, especially since my old ones were worn out. When have you bought new socks? When they form holes in more than a handful of them, it's probably time.

Random? You bet. Pointless? Probably. Well, back to "work". :)

Take two steps

I was at the train station this morning, and suddenly got disgusted with the amount of trash that was on the tracks. I looked around, and saw that there's at least three trashcans that are easily accessible. Why throw it on the ground? Take a couple steps and make it easier on all of us. 'Nuff said.

Jed the Fish replies to email

Bill wrote to Jed the Fish (at KROQ).

Hey man, I think your cool. I think you would be even cooler if you could give me two tickets to see The Mars Volta, and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers on August 31. I'll be your best [friend]. It will be excellent!

Three days later, Jed replied!

I am so not cool

Hilarious! Well, I thought it was…

Silas and I were supposed to meet up with other photography classmates for long exposure photos from Cow Canyon Saddle by Mt. Baldy Village1. That didn’t happen. I didn’t ask Bill to pose or smile. I liked his second portrait, but that wasn’t as sharp. Boo me. Reflections of myself and Bill’s dad (upper left) was deliberate. Taken inside his dad’s garage, and hopefully soon to be his recording studio. View on Flickr

  • A gift of film November 10, 2009
Jon Swanson emailed me last Friday and asked if I wanted any color Fuji 35mm film. He didn’t tell me how many rolls he had in his possession. Most importantly, he didn’t want a dime. I asked him how much he had, but he persisted that I give him a number. I requested eight rolls of 200 film1. [...]
