Sunday wackiness

For the most part, my Sundays are anything but ordinary. When the week goes by with purpose and productivity, it’s cool to just mess around on Sunday and not worry about anything.

  • I woke up for church late, and got there around 10 minutes late. I waited until offering to take my seat, so everyone could see me. Fortunately, Mr. Horton didn’t mention anything. I thought I was in the clear when Mr. Taylor was introducing the message, about being unprepared, when he said something along the lines of, “I don’t know what Bryan Villarin was thinking because when he drove down here late, he saw me walking home.” He forgot his notes at home, which is something he never does, and waved at me when I was driving in. For those who were in Kareyouthchurch, I’ve been mentioned in church everytime I’ve been late. It’s funny for everyone else, but not me – out of all people, why do I get grilled? It’s okay, it really is funny if you think about it. I think I can laugh at myself, sure.
  • After church, I went to Islands Restaurant in Pasadena. I haven’t been there since…Friday. (That’s another story, where we sat down to eat then decided to leave.) The hostess remembered us, and I don’t think she was exactly happy. Anyway, we were seated and waitress came over – and she was pretty. I would’ve left it at that, but Andy always takes it further. We was messing around playing footsies, trying to make us laugh when she was at our table. If he wasn’t there, I’m sure things wouldn’t be as animate. Good times.
  • Band practice was okay, but I feel like an idiot because Bill and Doc are coming up with a new song almost every other week, and I have to figure it out quick. We didn’t record anything new. James had to leave, but we stayed in the garage for awhile longer, still messing around with the new song. It’s kinda mellow, so it keeps the same beat. Doc was messing with it on my guitar, and Bill on his, so I tried the drums. I wish I could learn the drums better, but Bill says it was pretty good, especially since I have no experience. I can’t keep a steady bass beat – two limbs isn’t too hard, but three definitely is. Anyway, it’ll be a nice mellow song, that’s for sure. If we go live, it’d be played right before our last song. :)
  • After band practice, we were hanging out at Bill’s house for the rest of the evening. I stink at what Star Wars game he has, and had the same fate at Need For Speed. I like sports games better – guess which ones? If I had a PS2 and time, I think I could be as good as the other guys. I might just get one after the PS3 comes out.
  • Bill’s stepdad, David, made BBQ spare ribs and chicken (not sure what kind), and Bill’s mom made beans and corn. Wow. That was one of the best meals I’ve had in awhile. The meat was just incredible. Delicious. Succulent. I think BBQ spare ribs is my new favorite dish, I just don’t have them often enough to warrant a spot in my mind. I had like seven of them, they were that good. (Edit: Oh yeah, here’s a picture of my plate. Oh man.)
  • I’m not sure how we got to this point, but Travis, Bill’s friend, was telling us about how he and his friends used to make themselves faint on purpose as a “safe” high. I can’t find anything about this. Doc was having a blast, but Bill kept laughing when Doc would push on his chest. I couldn’t get myself to do it – I like my consciousness for the most part, thank you very much. It was funny just watching them.

  • Depends how you look at it November 16, 2009
Silas and I were supposed to meet up with other photography classmates for long exposure photos from Cow Canyon Saddle by Mt. Baldy Village1. That didn’t happen. Once we got to the turnout on Glendora Ridge Rd, we just saw a sign and a road leading into an RV park. There wasn’t a mention of Cow Canyon [...]

November 12, 2009 — A photo I took of the Rx Bandits rocking out at The Glass House (Pomona, CA). More to come, of course. Thanks to Cathy and Chase from Sargent House for the photo pass (again)! View on Flickr

I didn’t ask Bill to pose or smile. I liked his second portrait, but that wasn’t as sharp. Boo me. Reflections of myself and Bill’s dad (upper left) was deliberate. Taken inside his dad’s garage, and hopefully soon to be his recording studio. View on Flickr

  • A gift of film November 10, 2009
Jon Swanson emailed me last Friday and asked if I wanted any color Fuji 35mm film. He didn’t tell me how many rolls he had in his possession. Most importantly, he didn’t want a dime. I asked him how much he had, but he persisted that I give him a number. I requested eight rolls of 200 film1. [...]

  • One of my first prints November 5, 2009
I tried to get this scanned print as close to the real thing as possible. I cropped out the white borders since they weren’t clean. I didn’t write down how I exposed this in the enlarger – shame on me, I guess. Lastly, since this was our first assignment, our teacher hadn’t shown us contrast filters [...]
